(a) PRE-DEGREE PROGRAMME: (Approved with effect from 2011/2012 academic session) Admission Requirements: As stated by the University of Uyo
(b) BACHELOR OF AGRICULTURE (B. Agric.) Agricultural Economics and Extension. (Full Time Programme). Admission Requirements: Admission requirements shall be the same as stated by the University of Uyo and those of JAMB. To be admitted into the 5 year Bachelor of Agriculture degree programme, the candidate must possess NECO or WASC/GCE with at least 5 O" level credit passes to include Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Sciences, Mathematics, English Language and any one of Economics, Geography or Physics. Candidates must pass University Matriculation Examination (UME) and have the required aggregate score in the UME Subjects. They must also pass the University of Uyo Aptitude Test with required aggregate score.
Direct Entry
Direct admission into the Department is possible with any of the following qualifications;
HSC/GCE A/L: To be eligible for direct admission, the candidate must have met O" level requirements in the relevant subjects plus at least two HSC/GCE A/L passes in Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science.
OND/NCE: OND/NCE with adequate O/L qualifications may be admitted to year II and will run through the rest of the 5 year progrmme.
HND: Candidates with HND may be admitted into year II but would be exempted from the one year field practical training.
REMEDIAL: Candidates who have successfully completed 1 year remedial programme of the University of Uyo and have passed in 5 relevant subjects, shall be admitted into year 1 of the five year programme.
Transfer Admission
Candidates with adequate qualifications who wish to transfer from other universities to the Department of Agric. Economics and Extension shall be admitted into either year one or two depending on their qualifications and Cumulative Grade Point average (CGPA). Such Candidates must submit an official transcript from their former Universities. There is no admission beyond year II.
(c) MASTER OF SCIENCE (M.Sc.), DEGREE:
(i) M.Sc (Agricultural Economics) Full Time Programme. (ii) M.Sc. (Agricultural Extension) - Full Time Programme Admission Requirements: In addition to the requirements in the general regulations of the University of Uyo, admission into the M.Sc. degree in both Agricultural Economics and Agricultural Extension is open to holders of the B.Sc. B. Agric., and B. Tech Degrees in Agricultural Economics and Extension and related disciplines from a recognized University, with a minimum of second class Lower with a CGPA of 2.75 and above.
In addition to these requirement the candidate must satisfy the 0" Level requirements of the University of Uyo; that is 0" Level credit passes in five subjects at not more than two sittings including English Language, Mathematics, Agricultural Science/Biology, Chemistry, and one of Physics, Geography or Economics.
(d) POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA (PGD) PROGRAMME:
Postgraduate Diploma in Agric. Economics and Farm Management (Full Time Programme) (ii) Postgraduate Diploma in Agricultural Extension and Rural Development (Full Time Programme) Admission Requirements: To be eligible for admission into the PGD programme the candidate must hold a minimum of a pass or third class degree or Higher National Diploma at the credit or distinction level in agricultural economics/extension or a related discipline.
"Upper credit" in an unclassified HND certificate shall be considered to be equivalent to a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.50 (on a 5-point scale) or 3.00 (on a 4-point scale) or 60%.
(e) DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (Ph.D) DEGREE:
Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics (Full Time Programme) Ph.D. in Agricultural Extension (Full Time Programme) Admission Requirements: For both programmes, a candidate should possess the requisite qualifications prior to submitting the completed application forms. The basic entry requirement is a Master's degree in Agricultural Economics or Agricultural Extension or a related discipline, of the University of Uyo or any other recognized University with a minimum of B average (60%). In addition to these requirements, the candidate must certify the "O" Level requirements of the University of Uyo i.e. "O" Level credit passes in five subjects at not more than two sittings including English Language, Mathematics, Agricultural Science/Biology, Chemistry and one of Physics, Geography or Economics.
